Residencial Remodel in Tribeca, NYC – 2014

Moon Room

Moon Room
Introduction

An opportunity to design a unique sleeping piece

I was tasked with a makeover of a spacious Tribeca loft’s most important area, the bedroom.  The client wanted a custom bed that defined the space.  I could sense vintage indigo fabrics trending, and I was inspired to create a headboard and bed frame that celebrated this material as a work of art.  There also came an interesting pair of oxblood eel-skin pillows.

I enjoy juxtaposing materials

The high-gloss lacquered mouldings wrap around the radiant bed frame and head board, contrasting nicely with with the low-luster reclaimed oak and soft weave of the indigos.

If it works

I used a similar treatment of the lacquer mouldings and reclaimed oak to line the large window wells.

Moon surface on a ceiling

The ceiling was achieved by using a series of washes and milk paint on sustainable ceiling tiles.  This drops a calm over the room and ties back nicely with the indigos.

Oxblood meets indigo

The indigo kept begging for oxblood. It turns out that eel skin comes in the perfect color and shine.
